Da Move Lab (다무브랩) provides a stable platform upon which graduate researchers can develop their ideas on human rights, social movements, social networks, and political polarization. The lab is organized by Chan S. Suh, associate professor in the Department of Sociology at Chung-Ang University (CAU).
‘Da Move’ on the Move
Two of our collaborative research on online platforms are accepted by PLOS ONE, an international journal in the field of science. The paper entitled “Mobilizing Grievances in the Internet Age: The Case of National Online Petitioning in South Korea, 2017-2022” started as an undergraduate thesis by Kayoon Kim in 2021, and it has been developed as a collaborative work with Chan S. Suh. The other paper entitled “The Hatred of All against All? Evidence from Online Community Platforms in South Korea” is a study that Chan S. Suh and his colleagues have conducted within an SSK project on online hate (P.I.: Jeong-Woo Koo).

Jeong-Don Kim, the Chairman of Miwon Holdings, has generously provided Du-myeong Fellowship to the graduate researchers who are proceeding their social scientific studies in the Da Move Lab. We are very grateful for the donation and support that he gave to facilitate social scientific research in our lab.

Sidney Tarrow, an emiritus professor at Cornell University who is recognized for his pioneering research in social movements and contentious politics, has sent a message to our lab: “Congratulations on the launch of Da Move, the first —and so far the only— Korean lab to focus on the actions and the strategies of social movements. I welcome the fact that the Asian country with the most active social movement scene will take the lead in research on social movement activism.”
